In 1985, Christine “Chris” McCrea began riding at a local stable in her hometown of Suffield, Connecticut, and she knew then that she loved the sport. Chris competed in the hunters, jumpers, and the equitation throughout her junior years. She capped off her junior career by winning the 1996 Washington International Horse Show Equitation Finals. Following this win, Chris earned her bachelor’s degree in business at the University of Connecticut. Chris continued riding while attending college and burst onto the Grand Prix circuit in 1999.

Since then, Chris has never looked back. Her focus and drive to excel in the sport are evident throughout her steady rise up the show-jumping ranks within the U.S. and international circuits. She has been extremely fortunate to have found success aboard Promised Land, Vegas, Avenir and Romantovich Take One, to name a few of her special mounts. Chris’s domestic wins have led to her selection for several USET Super League Tours in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2011 and USET’s Developing Riders Tour in 2004. Each tour has proved to be a success for Chris in her overall growth as an international competitor. Highlights include being a part of the 2005 second-place team in the Nations Cup in LuChristine McCreamen, Belgium; being awarded the 2006 Longines Press Award for Elegance in Dublin, Ireland; winning as a team in 2007 in Hickstead, England; and having six clear rounds in the six Nations Cup competitions during her 2011 Nations Cup tour, including a double clear in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

While state-side, Chris has earned multiple finishes at home including the only clear round of the 2008 $100,000 Budweiser Grand Prix of Syracuse. Highlights include: 1st place at the 2005 $10,000 Masters Mini Grand Prix at the Vermont Summer Festival; 1st place at the 2006 $100,000 National Indoor Finals for the Marshall & Sterling League; 1st place at the 2006 $50,000 Grey Goose Vodka World Cup & Grand Prix qualifier at the Hampton Classic; and 1st place at the 2006 $100,000 Wachovia Securities American Gold Cup World Cupqualifying Grand Prix. And in 2007, Chris was a finalist for the 2007 Las Vegas World Cup.

Chris is married to fellow Irish equestrian Jonathan McCrea and they have two dogs. When they are not on the road, they enjoy UConn football games and playing the occasional round of golf. Chris is also actively involved with the Zone 1 Jumping Committee.
